Philippines Aquaculture Congress Opens Wednesday

The 2nd Aquaculture Expo will usher the start of the First Aquaculture Industry Congress that opens Wednesday at Isla Parilla in Alabel, Sarangani in the Philippines.

Sponsored by the Chamber of Aquaculture Industries and Allied Services, the two-day meet aims to strengthen the growing aquaculture industry as one of the major sectors of the fishing industry in the country today.

It will also showcase the region's aquaculture products; chief among them is the highly valued Sarangani Prime Bangus Product.

The aquaculture industry has been struggling to gain government support in the light of the growing demand for bangus, tilapia, grouper (lapu-lapu), bass and prawn products, all of them are cultured in inland and or brackish water.

The congress will likewise tackle various laws and policies of the government that inhibit the full potential of the aquaculture industry as well as enhancing means to keep Philippine aquaculture products competitive in the international market.
