Carp Herpes Virus Detected Again in Japan
The Koi (carp) herpes virus (KHV) has been detected again in Japan in ponds of a carp breeder in Kunitomicho, Miyazaki Prefecture, the Miyazaki prefectural government's fisheries affairs section said Monday.
According to the section, 15 carp in the ponds were found infected with KHV.
Samples taken from the carp will be sent to the National Research Institute of Aquaculture, Fisheries Research Agency in Mie Prefecture for further examination.
The breeder will sanitize nets in all the ponds and kill all the fish, including fry. About three tons of dead carp will be disposed of through burial.
According to the fisheries affairs section, the breeder was buying carp from another breeder of Saito, Miyazaki Prefecture, at whose farm KHV-positive carp were first found in the prefecture on October 13.
