San Miguel-Bacolod to produce 7M dressed chickens in 2007
San Miguel Corporation (SMC) in Bacolod City aims to produce seven million birds (dressed chicken) in the province of Negros Occidental next year at a minimum of one million birds per harvest.
The country's biggest food conglomerate is set to use its latest "cool cell" technology using airconditioned building for raising poultry.
According to provincial veterinarian Renante Decena, the production will further enhance the local production of dressed chicken in the province and will augment the present production of one million birds per month by Swift, Bounty, Vitarich and SMC, the four poultry integrators in the province.
The seven million birds for seven harvests could reach up to 2008, he said.
Decena assured that chicken supply in Negros Occidental is sufficient up until Christmas and can even address the reported shortage particularly in Metro Manila.
Aside from current production by four poultry integrators at one million birds per month, Decena said the province is teeming with poultry raisers that can suffice demand surge especially during the holidays.
