Romanian poultry producer Transavia has constructed two new local cereal farms, located in Ciuguzel (Alba county) and in Samboleni (Cluj county), and invested €5 million (US$6.7 million) in agricultural equipment for the two farms.
"The expansion of this division exceeded the investment budget announced for this year, while in the last seven years Transavia made total investments of €60 million (US$81 million)," reads the company's statement.
The company has two other cereal farms in Romania, in Spring (Alba County) and Rediu (Cluj County), both opened in 2011.
Transavia's target for 2014 is to cultivate over 15,000 hectares of agricultural land in order to provide 100% of the required grains to feed the birds. It also plans to establish new crops next year. The investment in cereal farms is a first among poultry producers in Romania, according to Transavia.
Transavia is one of the largest meat producers in Romania and employs some 1,500 people.
The company produces over 55,000 tonnes of chicken meat in its farms located in Alba, Cluj, Sibiu, Brasov and Harghita counties.
