As concerns mount over the state of the industry, Ireland's poultry imports are surpassing exports for the first time in four years.

Imports of fresh, frozen and processed chicken meat reached 50,409 tonnes in the first eight months of 2012, a rise of 9% on the same period last year. In the same period, exports slumped by 22% to 44 021t.
