Ukraine's Jan-Oct livestock, poultry sales up 2.2%



During January-October 2012, Ukraine's sales of livestock and poultry have increased by 2.2%.


According to the Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food, Mykola Prysiazhniuk, Ukraine is experiencing a steady increase in the number of livestock and poultry, as well as increase in their productivity. Since January, cattle numbers have increased by almost 53,000 head and pigs by 123,700 head compared with last year.


"It's nice to emphasise that today in Ukraine, we can note the positive results in the field of animal husbandry," said Prysiazhniuk.


"This applies not only to suspend cattle numbers decline, but also the growth of other equally important indicators of the industry."


The agriculture minister informed that as of November 1 in all categories, there are about five million head of cattle and more than eight million pigs. The slaughter volume so far for 2012 is 2.4 million tonnes of livestock and poultry in live weight.
