South Australian seafood exports could grow to A$2 billion by 2015
South Australian seafood industry could earn four times as much to A$2 billion annually by 2015, according to a new report by the state's Seafood Council released on Nov 21.
Now valued at US$500 million, the domestic industry has significant room to grow, into interstate and international export markets, the report says.
Seafood Council's industry development manager Roger Edwards said that seven key sectors, including the rock lobster, oyster and prawn sectors, were involved in the 10-year expansion plan, with 150 jobs created as a result.
Agriculture Minister Rory McEwen also agreed that the A$2-billion target was achievable, and added that the goal now for the local industry is to come up with new ways to market seafood products.
