Perak, Malaysia poultry farmers mandated to shift to closed house system

Poultry farmers in the Perak, Malaysia are required to transition from the current open cage system to an environmentally sustainable closed house system within the next three years, The Star reported.

Datuk Mohd Zolkafly Harun, the chairman of the State Rural Development, Plantation, Agriculture, and Food Industry Committee, said that those failing to comply may face penalties under the recently amended Poultry Farming Enactment (2023) gazetted on July 20.

Addressing a media conference, Datuk Harun stated that non-compliance could result in a minimum compound of MYR 5,000, a fine reaching up to MYR 50,000, or imprisonment not exceeding three years. As of now, 203 out of the 507 licensed poultry farms in the state have already made the switch to the closed coop system.

He said that the deadline for the transition is December 31, 2025, providing ample time for poultry farmers to adhere to the new regulations.
