Western Australia grains association trims wheat forecast amidst hot weather

The Grain Industry Association of Western Australia has revised its wheat production forecast for the state downward once again, citing adverse effects from persistent hot weather, Yahoo! Finance reported.

Most of the broader grains harvest is anticipated to conclude by the end of December.

The monthly report from the association highlights that a significant portion of wheat crops has been impacted by dry conditions, resulting in lower-than-expected yields compared to initial projections at the commencement of the harvest.

Western Australia holds a pivotal position as the nation's primary exporter of this essential food commodity.

The ongoing grain harvesting activities throughout the state are on track to wrap up several weeks ahead of the usual schedule. Notably, barley has emerged as a standout crop amidst the challenging conditions, as outlined by the association. The truncated season, primarily attributed to the absence of spring rainfall, has markedly constrained the potential of crops that had a later emergence.

Australia experienced an extended period of dry weather during September and October, and the advent of El Niño is anticipated to prolong the warmer conditions into the coming year. The Australian government is set to release comprehensive forecasts for the nation's overall grain production, encompassing wheat and canola, early next month.
