Mauritius To Explore Seafood Alliance Opportunities With India

Mauritian Prime Minister Paul R Berenger on Wednesday invited industrialists to visit his country, and said he was looking at a strategic alliance with India in the field of information technology and seafood exports.

Information technology and sea food exports were the two new areas in which Mauritius was taking a giant leap, he told a group of businessmen at a function here organised by All India Association of Industries and Indo-Mauritius Chamber of Commerce.

Mauritius had immense potential to transform into a seafood hub in the region and was looking towards India for partnerships in this area, Berenger, who is on a visit to the country, commented on the issue.

Mauritius is already well established in tourism, textiles and pharmaceuticals.

Many leading companies such as Asian Paints, Indian Oil and Life Insurance Corporation of India had already made their presence felt in Mauritus, he said.

Mauritius has a growth rate of 4.4% in the current year and the per capita income has reached $4413, ahead of South Africa, Berenger said.
