US sees highest pig litter rate in June-August 2024

The United States' pig litter rate in June-August 2024 was the highest ever, at 11.72 pigs per litter, according to the US Department of Agriculture's Economic Research Service.
The resulting number of pigs was slightly less than 1% below that of a year ago, with the litter rate offsetting much of the lower farrowing.
The June–August 2024 number of pigs was projected to produce 7.1 billion pounds of pork in the first quarter of 2025, a production level fractionally higher than a year earlier.
