Agreement allows Belgium to export pig's feet to China

Belgium's Federal Agency for the Safety of the Food Chain (FAVV) has taken an important step with China's General Administration Customs (GACC) in expanding the export of Belgian pork products to China.
After extensive negotiations, an agreement was signed, and this concerns the export of products to China such as pig's feet that are not widely consumed in Belgium. Pig's feet are very popular in China.
After African swine fever emerged in Belgium in 2018, many third countries, including China, imposed restrictions on the trade of Belgian pork. It took years of negotiations before most countries lifted their embargo, according to FAVV.
Belgian pork has once more been approved for export to China as of the beginning of 2024. The extension of thw agreement opens the door to more export opportunities for the Belgian pig sector.
According to David Clarinval, Federal Minister of Agriculture, "By promoting access for Belgian products to the Chinese market, farmers can ask for a better price for all of their products."
