The number of live pig inventory in China grew slightly during the 3rd quarter 2003, while slaughter pigs and pork production show trends of increasing.
During the first eight months of 2003, the exports and imports of pork products were as follows:

Both the export volume and export turnover of pork products increased;

Exports of fresh and frozen pork rose;

Exports of pig entrails declined;

Import volume and turnover of pork products increased;

Imports of pig entrails increased significantly;

Imports of frozen pork declined;

Exports of slaughter pigs increased; import turnover declined.
Compared to the same period last year, prices of slaughter pigs and pork in China rose in the 3rd quarter of 2003, higher than the prices in the second quarter.
