Meiji Holdings initiates recall of milk in Japan due to antibacterial contamination

Meiji Holdings has announced a recall of certain batches of Meiji Milk in Tokyo, Japan, following the detection of sulfamonomethoxine, an antibacterial chemical used in treating cattle, The Straits Times reported.

The company assures consumers that although the affected products are being recalled, consuming the milk poses no harm.

In a statement on its website, Meiji stated that customers who purchased the impacted products would be eligible for refunds.

A spokesperson for Meiji's Singapore branch said the recall pertains only to milk produced and sold in Japan, which are not shipped to overseas markets.
