Ukraine grain traders leading in world markets

Ukraine's grain traders are leading in sales volumes on global markets in 2009, according to an industry leader.

Ukrainian exporters have reached considerable competitive advantages due to the favourable situation on global markets, lower freight rates and the devaluation of the country's currency, which has boosted profitability and efficiency of export deliveries, said Vitaliy Hudzenko, board chairman of the Agro-Leader-Ukraine farm complex.

Ukrainian grain traders managed to take the lead on the markets of Spain, Tunisia, Algeria, Egypt, Saudi Arabia and Jordan. The markets of the Far East, Japan and South Korea also became accessible.

This breakthrough may open other agricultural markets to Ukraine as well, said Hudzenko.

Ukrainian suppliers are offering grain at much lower prices than the world's average, with the difference sometimes reaching US$20 per tonne.
