India's crop production likely to grow 4.1 percent

India's overall crop production in the fiscal year started April is likely to grow by 4.1 percent because of higher prices and satisfactory rainfall, the Business Standard newspaper reported Friday (November 16, 2007), reported Center for Monitoring Indian Economy.

The report said growth would be more pronounced for non-food crops such as oilseeds, cottonne and sugarcane.

Independent research organization CMIE estimates India's oilseed production in the current fiscal year will total 27 million tonnes, up from 23.9 million tonnes last year.

Groundnut production is likely to nearly double to 8 million tonnes from 4.9 million tonnes, the report said.
