Press release
Aviagen, the world's leading poultry company, recently held its fourth European Technical Seminar at the Royal College of Physicians in Edinburgh, Scotland.
Some 140 customers and distributors from 20 countries across Europe attended the event.
The seminar addressed an important economic theme of the production chain 'Optimising Chick Output'. A range of topics was discussed over the two-and-a-half days of the seminar, with eight presentations in total from several experts from all parts of the world.
Professor Frank Robinson, Department of Agriculture, Food and Nutritional Science, University of Alberta, discussed 'Capturing Reproductive Potential of Breeder Females', while Dr Eddy Decuypere, Centre for Science, Technology and Ethics, Katholieke Universiteit Leuven, Belgium, talked about the interface of environmental and egg factors affecting chick quality.
On the second day, Dr Peter Lewis, Research Fellow at the University of KwaZulu-Natal, informed the audience about new research showing how lighting affects reproductive efficiency in broiler breeders.
Dr Eija Helander, Development Manager for Suomen Rehu in Finland, described their experience implementing low-density breeder diets in Finland. There were also presentations from Aviagen staff on topics such as 'Looking after the chick', 'Genomics', 'Feeding breeders for chick quality and broiler performance' and 'Effective automation'.
James Hook of PD Hook Hatcheries commented, "The European Technical Seminar is an important date in the calendar for distributors and customers as it gives us the opportunity to keep up to date with industry information and re-establish relationships with Aviagen staff in a great venue."
Dinah Nicholson, Aviagen European Technical Director, said, "The seminar was a great success and we were delighted to see so many people from such a wide variety of countries taking time out of their daily responsibilities to attend."
The seminar was also an excellent opportunity to share industry information and best practices with a variety of people from the poultry industry, added Nicholson.
