Mizoram, India reports new cases of ASF

Mizoram, India has reported a resurgence of African swine fever (ASF), with 68 swine deaths recorded, a significant increase after a period of decline in fatalities.
Most of the deaths, 61, were reported in the remote village of Lopu in the Siaha district. Officials suggest that delays in reporting may have contributed to the high number of fatalities in this area.
There were two deaths reported in Lunglei district and no swine culled. 13 swine were culled from Kolasih and Serchhip districts as part of ongoing containment measures.
Since the outbreak began in February 2024, a total of 14,604 swine have died across the state, while 23,903 swine have been culled in efforts to control the spread of the disease. The outbreak has affected 254 villages, highlighting the widespread impact of ASF on the state's livestock.
Authorities are maintaining close surveillance of the situation and continuing efforts to contain the disease and minimise its impact on affected communities.
