Record grain production for 2022/23 harvest in Minas Gerais, Brazil, expected

The Brazilian state of Minas Gerais is expected to see another record in grain production for the 2022/23 harvest, according to the first survey by the National Supply Company (Conab).
The volume produced is forecast to reach 18.2 million tonnes, an increase of 8.5% in relation to the previous agricultural year. The expansion of the cultivated area will be 2%, reaching 4.1 million hectares, and productivity will be 6.4% higher, estimated at 4,394kg/ha.
For the total corn (first and second crops), a record production of nine million tonnes is estimated, with an 18.4% growth in relation to last season. The area is expected to be 1.4 million hectares, 2.9% larger, while productivity will grow 15%, reaching 6,338kg/ha.
In the first harvest, there will be a 2.8% decrease in production, due to the migration of the corn-growing area to other products, especially soy, but with the same productivity.
In the second harvest, an increase of 72.2% is estimated, reaching 3.7 million tonnes, with an expansion of 11.8% in the area (618.8 thousand hectares) and 54.3% in productivity (6,037 kg/ha).
As for soybeans, an increase of 2% is expected in the volume produced, estimated at 7.6 million tonnes due to an advance of 2.2% in the cultivated area, which should reach two million hectares. Productivity will suffer a decrease of 1.9%, standing at 3,754kg/ha.
