China's wheat import forecast for 2013/14 revised to 8 million tonnes
The China National Grain and Oils Information Center (CNGOIC) released a new report for wheat imports on November 13, again revising up its forecast for the year 2013/14 to 8 million tonnes, the highest in nearly two decades.
In September, CNGOIC already revised up wheat import forecast to 7.5 million tonnes from an earlier 6.5 million tonnes for the year ending May 2014.
After the domestic wheat harvest was damaged by bad weather, China increased its wheat imports this year. The country has already bought a combined 4.5 million tonnes of wheat from US and Australia.
