Province in Iran to harvest 100,000 tonnes of shrimp

Iran's Hormozgan province is set to harvest 100,000 tonnes of shrimp after a one-month delay to the harvest, according to the Iranian Agriculture News Agency.

The prawns, which would be harvested from 800 hectares of farms will be started from December 1, a government official said.

Lack of shrimp seeds earlier lead to a month of delay in the harvest, he continued.

Some of the harvest would be exported after fulfilling domestic needs, he added.

The shrimp would be 10 to 15 grammes each and fetch between 4,000 to 5,000 Tomans (US$4.29-US$5.26) per kilogramme in the market.
