Soy exports from Brazil's Paranagua to beat 2004

January to October shipments from Brazil's biggest exit port for soybeans, the Paranagua Port in Parana state reached 5.05 million tonnes, topping the 5.02 million tonnes over the same period in 2004, the Port Authority said in a statement Thursday.

Last year's total 12-month shipments were 5.08 million tonnes. Last week's shipment of 139,000 tonnes of soy helped to boost this year's pace, the Port Authority said.

More ships are expected to leave Paranagua in the next few days, making it likely that the port will top last year's shipping numbers, port authority administrator, Eduardo Requiao, said in the statement. One freighter, the Standard Vigor, will be arriving next Friday for loading 25,000 tonnes of soybeans.

Brazil is the no. 2 exporter of soy, following the US.
