Tyson Foods Enters Joint Venture With Canada's Export Packers Company To Build Chicken Processing Plant

 

U.S. meat processing giant Tyson Foods Inc. has enterd into joint venture with a Toronto-area poultry company to produce chicken products for the Canadian market.

 

Tyson and Export Packers Co. Ltd. said Thursday they would build a chicken processing plant in Paris, Ont., creating about 30 jobs in that agricultural community in southwestern Ontario.

 

2004 spring will witness the operation of the plant to produce Tyson and Export Packers' branded products for Canadian consumers, restaurants and other foodservice companies.

 

The name of the new joint-venture company is Export Packers Foods Ltd.

Tyson Foods, based in Springdale, Ark., is the world's largest processor and seller of chicken, beef and pork and the second largest food company in the Fortune 500 group of companies. The company has about 120,000 employees and 300 plants and offices around the world.

 

Export Packers, based in Brampton, near Toronto, is one of Canada's largest privately owned food companies and a large importer of poultry products.
