Paraná, Brazil, sees best month for pork exports in September

Vietnam is the main importer of pork from Paraná, Brazil, for the first time, while two new markets, the Philippines and the Dominican Republic, which started buying pork this year, are already among the top 10 destinations.

September was the best month for the Brazilian state's pork exports since the Agrostat historical series began in 1997. The Brazilian Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock platform monitors the agricultural sector's foreign trade.

In September, around 18,600 tonnes of pork were exported, worth US$47.7 million, up 9% in volume and 25% in value compared to the same month last year (17,100 tonnes, US$36.5 million).

This year, the Philippines made its first pork purchases from Paraná, increasing volumes from July onwards, and in September, it ranked fifth among the main destinations. It imported 1,900 tonnes, worth US$5.3 million. The Dominican Republic also made its 2024 debut and in September purchased 490 tonnes, worth US$973,000, ranking seventh.

Vietnam has been a regular customer of Paraná since October 2018, but it was the leading destination for the first time, with 3,300 tonnes of pork. In 2023 it ranked third in September, with around 2,300 tonnes.

Hong Kong, China, the main destination in the same month last year with 5,500 tonnes, fell to second place, with 2,800 tonnes.

Rounding out the ranking of the top 10 importers of pork from Paraná are Uruguay (2,400 tonnes), Singapore (2,300 tonnes), Argentina (1,500 tonnes), Angola (486 tonnes), Georgia (481 tonnes), and Liberia (442 tonnes).
