China approves six Argentina slaughterhouses and processing plants for beef imports
The approval comes as more beef is exported to China from Argentina and Brazil, amid the spread of African swine fever (ASF) affecting China, reported Reuters.
The approval announcement was made over Twitter by Argentina's Agriculture Minister Luis Etchevehere. The minister was in China this week.
According to Argentina's state news agency Telam, Etchevehere said Argentina's economy was complementary to growing meat demands in China.
China has sought to open its doors to the global market as the world's top pork producer is facing a meat supply shortfall from the deadly ASF. The country has seen its swine herd fall by one third since ASF was first discovered.
