Ukraine's Agrarian Policy and Food Ministry expects insufficient planting of winter crops in 2014.
Policy and food minister of Ukraine Mykola Prysiazhniuk said, "Today, we don't sow 400,000 hectares, 350 hectares of them - winter wheat."
Sowing of the winter crops is almost over, according to the minister. "It will continue in the southern regions of the country for a few days," he said.
Prysiazhniuk said that the farmers will sow other areas in the spring, mainly with corn and barley.
The minister predicts an increase in land sown with corn by 0.5 million hectares to 5.5 million hectares in 2014.
