Nepal provides compensation to poultry farmers
 

 

The Nepalese government has started to provide NPR60 million (US$600,000) compensation to poultry farmers for the chickens and poultry feed destroyed after declaring bird flu emergency zone in Bhaktapur district.

 

This is according to Chief of the District Livestock Office, Khagendra Raj Bhatta.

 

It was learned that the government allocated NPR132.9 million (US$1.3 million) for distributing compensation and as many as 360 farmers in the district have got compensation so far.

 

The government provided the compensation amount to the farmers as per the existing price. NPR130 (US$1.30) was provided to each broiler chicken, NPR250 (US$2.50) to parent chicken, NPR50 (US$0.50) to chicks, NPR3 (US$0.03) per egg, NPR10 (US$0.10) to per kilogramme of poultry feed and NPR100 (US$1) to per kilogramme of meat was provided to the farmers.

 

In order to get the compensation amount, hatchery owners are required to submit registration certificate, evidence of bringing parent chicken from foreign country, evidence of payment of tax and owner of poultry farm should submit certificate of farm registration and certificate of payment of tax.
