Russia to complete talks on US meat quotas this month
Russia plans to complete this month talks with the US on reducing next year's import quotas for US poultry and pork, a senior Economic Development Ministry official said on Monday (Nov 11, 2008).
The talks will be completed before the end of November, said Maxim Medvedkov, who heads the ministry's trade negotiations department.
Russia plans to cut next year's US poultry imports by 300,000 tonnes. Out of Russia's current total of 1.2 million tonnes of poultry imports, US poultry accounted for 870,000 tonnes.
Russia banned poultry imports from 19 US producers on September 1, citing their failure to meet sanitary standards.
