Vietnam's Ecological Shrimp Drawing European Markets

Vietnam's seafood processors have exported four containers of ecological shrimp (equivalent to 200 tons) to Australia, Japan, and the European Union so far this year.

The prices of these shrimp are about 20 percent higher than normal ones, according to the Vietnam Association of Seafood Processors and Exporters (VASEP).

This type of shrimp is raised in natural environmental conditions, where technology is being strictly applied in breeding to ensure water quality and environment cleanliness. Vietnam's ecological shrimp products have been attracting customers in Europe.

Shrimp breeders aim to obtain an annual profit of 10 - 20 million VND per ha.

The southernmost province of Ca Mau is applying this shrimp raising model on 3,000 ha. The acreage is expected to expand to 20,000 ha soon.
