Peru to allocate funding for fishing and aquaculture projects


 
Peru will allocate PEN 1.23 million (~US$315,000; PEN 1 = US$0.26) in funding for 34 fishing and aquaculture projects that won a National Program for Innovation in Fisheries and Aquaculture (PNIPA) contest, Fish Information & Services reported.

 

Jorge Prado Palomino, Peru's Head of Produce, said PEN 485,103 (~US$124,000) will be allocated to the fishing industry, and PEN 749,772 (~US$192,000) for the aquaculture sector. The funding is provided by the financing source Ordinary Resources, Directly Collected Resources and Resources for Official Credit Operations.

 

Winning aquaculture projects include Prinsermar project, in which the development of operational and technical capacities will be made in the primary processing service for scallops in the Piura region, with a co-financing of more than PEN 42,000 (~US$1,077).

 

Another noteworthy project is by the company Aquavraem de Cusco, for which it will receive co-financing of PEN 20,800 (~US$5,338), to improve the transport and commercialistion system of the paco resource with a cold chain and biosafety application.
