Ukraine's 2012 grain crop to hit 54 million tonnes

Ukraine is planning to amplify the volume of agricultural production by 5.7% to reach 54 million tones of grain output in 2012.

These are the indicators laid down in the project of the State program for economic and social development of Ukraine for 2012, declared Nikolai Prysiazhnyuk, Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine.

According to him, the progress in execution of the program of winter grain crops sowing is provided by the complete readiness of agricultural enterprises for the sowing season. These results will allow to the Government to form food carry-over stocks next year, which would avoid shortages of bread, and guarantee food security of the country.

Besides, the Minister noted that as of November 8, 2011, Ukrainian agrarians sowed winter crops throughout 99% of the planned areas. Seventeen oblasts of Ukraine already completed the autumn sowing campaign. Agrarians sowed winter crops throughout the areas of 9.2 million ha, which became almost equal to the last year results.
