South Korea vaccinates over 90% of cattle against LSD

The South Korean agriculture ministry announced that more than 90% of the country's cattle have been successfully vaccinated against lumpy skin disease (LSD), The Korea Herald reported.
This vaccination campaign comes in response to the country's first-ever case of LSD reported on October 20, with 78 cases confirmed nationwide since.
In an effort to contain the disease, authorities have administered over 3.11 million doses of the vaccine to the country's 4.08 million cattle. The government initiated an intensive vaccination campaign with the goal of vaccinating all cattle by the end of the week.
The spread of LSD has slowed this month, with no new cases reported since Saturday. However, authorities continue to investigate three suspected cases. LSD does not affect humans but is highly contagious among cattle, causing skin lesions, fever, loss of appetite, reduced milk production, and potentially leading to fatalities. The disease is transmitted to cattle and buffalo through mosquitoes and other blood-feeding insects.
