Strike at Tyson plant ends
The strike at Tyson Food's Lakeside Packers beef slaughterhouse, Alberta, Canada, has ended. Plant workers have ratified a new contract with the company, which ended the three-week strike.
Workers represented by the United Food and Commercial Workers Union, have been on strike since Oct 12 over a wage dispute. However, about 1,000 employees crossed picket lines during the strike, which maintained operations at a reduced capacity.
According to union sources, a narrow 56 percent majority of those who voted approved the new contract.
The plant has resumed normal operations with all workers on Monday.
Lakeside Packers had a daily slaughter capacity of 3,800 cattle. This number was expected to rise to 4,700 head during the autumn season.
