Foot and mouth vaccinators eye 158 million South American cattle
In order to rid the region of foot and mouth disease (FMD), the second round of cattle vaccinations have begun across South America this month, aiming to reach 158 million cattle.
Ambitious plans to treat buffaloes and cattle began on Friday (Nov 1), to run to the end of the year.
Brazilian animal health authorities are retackling the Roraima, Rondonia and Amapa regions while Acre Alagoas, Mato Grosso, Parana and Rio Grande do Norte are among states targeted to be entirely treated.
Argentinian efforts are combining 37 separate animal health authorities, vaccinating 8.5 million animals.
