CFIA alert for possible drug contamination in shrimp products

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency and Henry H. Misner Ltd., the Port Dover-based manufacturer, have warned consumers against purchasing 400-gramme packages of breaded shrimp and coconut shrimp as these may be contaminated with nitrofurans.

Nitrofurans are drugs banned in Canada for food producing animals.

These shrimp products were sold nationally at the M & M Shops and have immediately been recalled.

CFIA said that the contaminated products may no longer be available for sale, but consumers might still have them in their freezers.
