Estonia's Q3 egg production down 10.2% on-year
In the third quarter of 2012, Estonia produced 41.3 million eggs, 10.2% less than in the same period last year.
The figures available from Statistics Estonia also show that milk production in the same three-month period meanwhile climbed 3.3% on-year to 184,724 tonnes.
Compared with the second quarter of the year, milk production edged up 0.4% while egg production dropped 10%. The average milk yield per cow was 1.9 tonnes in the third quarter, unchanged from both the third quarter of 2011 as well as the second quarter of this year.
The average production of eggs per hen was 70 in the third quarter of 2012, 68 in the third quarter of 2011 and 69 in the second quarter of 2012.
As of September 30, 2012 there were 373,700 pigs, 99,500 sheep and goats, 1.94 million poultry birds and 250,700 heads of cattle, including 96,600 milk cows in Estonia. At the same time a year earlier the number of heads of cattle was 244,200, including of milk cows 96,600, of pigs 383,800, of sheep and goats 99,900, and of poultry birds 2.06 million.
In the third quarter of this year 28,300 calves and 198,700 piglets were born in Estonia, compared with respectively 25,600 and 202,800 a year ago.
