US feed additive company VakSea wins Aquaculture Innovation Challenge at AquaSG 2019

VakSea was awarded US$50,000 and a partnership with the Singapore Aquaculture Innovation Centre at the AquaSG event, held for its fourth year.

Together with experts from the centre, VakSea will conduct research and development, creating a proof-of-concept.

Mihir Pershad, CEO of VakSea, described the 2016-founded US company as an aquaculture biotechnology firm that bio-manufactures immune boosting feed additives from insect larva to prevent viral disease outbreaks affecting aquaculture-produced fish and shrimp.

As part of the challenge, Pershad had to pitch VakSea to international aquaculture industry leaders and investors at the conference.

VakSea had also won the Future Food Asia 2019 Startup SG award, awarded to companies that showcase the potential to considerably affect food production future in Singapore. VakSea received US$50,000 of funding as part of the award.

The AquaSG conference is organised by Temasek Polytechnic and the Singapore Aquaculture Innovation Centre as a platform for aquaculture industry professionals and academics to discuss current issues about the industry and present new solutions and applications in aquaculture.
