As soon as the US veterinary services provide additional information required by Russian specialists to show that the companies are able to meet all Russian and Customs Union supply safety requirements, two US companies may resume supplying Russia with turkey meat.
An agreement was reached during talks between Rosselkhoznadzor chief Sergei Dankvert and the Administrator of the Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS), Alfred Almanza.
The companies will resume supplying the meat if a positive decision is made and will be checked in the next inspection planned for February 2014.
An unscheduled inspection of American poultry producers is to take place this year from December 9-20. The US has suggested inspecting turkey meat producers, as well as broiler meat suppliers, as earlier informed by Rosselkhoznadzor chief Sergei Dankvert.
Due to the use of ractopamine in the meat's production, Russia stopped US meat supplies in February of this year. Refrigerated meat imports have been prohibited since February 4 of this year, and frozen meat imports since February 11.
