UK's Grampian Country Food Group closes chicken factory
Grampian Country Food Group announced it is closing its chicken factory in Banff, UK.
The company blamed the 'fiercely competitive' chicken sector and cheap foreign imports for the decision.
The company originally announced the closure in August, but extended the closure in hopes of selling the factory. Now, these hopes are drawing down. The factory would be decommissioned if there continue to be no buyers, a company spokesman said.
Established in Banff in the North East of Scotland in 1980, Grampian Country Food Group has grown through acquisition to become one of the UK's leading food producers. The business now employs almost 20,000 people, has a turnover of over GBP 1.8 billion and operations throughout the UK and Thailand, according to the company's website.
