Unknown disease causing rising pig deaths in Hakha, Chin State, Myanmar
The death rate of pigs produced in Hakha, Chin State, Myanmar, has been rising due to an unknown infectious disease, according to locals.
It is estimated that more than 100 pigs in the city have already died. Affected pigs were reported to have suffered from constipation and this was linked to African swine fever (ASF).
However, it has not been possible to confirm the exact type of disease. Infections have been detected in pig farms from Hakha since the end of September.
In the Indian state of Mizoram, which borders Chin State, more than 40,000 pigs have died in 18 months due to ASF.
