Honduras shrimp exports generate US$222.3 million

Shrimp aquaculture producers in Honduras said shrimp exports have generated US$222.3 million by the end of the third quarter of this year, shipping 53.2 million pounds of shrimp, Fish Information & Services reported.

The Honduras Monthly Index of Economic Activity (IMAE) for August 2022 showed that shrimp farming has been able to recover its yields following the conditions experienced in previous months.

The report also emphasised how the year's first rains improved shrimp larvae survival, increasing their production.

Moreover, exports of 53.2 million pounds increased by 614,000 pounds over the 52.5 million pounds that were shipped to the global market during the same period of 2021.

In comparison to the 203 million dollars received at the time of analysis the year before, that volume generated 222.3 million dollars in foreign currency, an increase of 18.6%.

In this way, the Honduras government continues to support the various production sectors in the nation by implementing development projects, providing technological incentives, and providing farmer training.
