Soy farmers in Brazil plant 1 million hectares daily to catch up on sowing delays
Consultancy AgRural said Brazilian soy farmers planted about 1 million hectares of soybean daily last week to catch up on sowing delays for the new grain season, Reuters reported.
According to AgRural, Brazil soybean planting jumped to 42% from 23% of the area by October 29, after rains provided necessary soil moisture for the farmers to begin planting.
The current situation is closer to the 44% historical average by this time of the year.
Daniele Siqueira, AgRural grain analyst, said while conditions have improved for planting in most areas of Brazil, more humidity was required in Parana, the second biggest soybean producer after Mato Grosso state.
Drier than normal conditions have delayed Brazil's new grains season this year.
Even though farmers can catch up on soybean planting delay, it could affect other crops planted after soybeans are harvested in the traditional rotation system such as corn and cotton.
