Japan tops Vietnamese seafood imports in Jan-Sep
                       


Japan became the biggest importer of Vietnamese seafood in the first nine months of 2009 with revenue of US$538.83 million, down 11.87 percent from a year earlier, the Vietnam General Customs Department said.

 

The US ranked second with a revenue of US$518.7 million in January to September, down 2.6 percent against the same period of 2008.

 

Vietnam exported 873,500 tonnes of seafood worth US$3.03 billion to 155 markets in January to September 2009, down 6.1 percent in volume and 9.1 percent in value on year, the Ministry of Industry and Trade said.

 

Of the total, frozen shrimp export brought in US$1.15 billion, followed by tra and basa catfish export and mollusca export with US$985.2 million and US$204.7 million, respectively.
