Cargill To Merge Its Beef, Pork & Turkey Operations

US agribusiness giant Cargill has said it plans to merge its beef, pork and turkey operations under the name of Cargill Meat Solutions by early 2004.


The company said that the combined unit would likely be the second-largest US meat company after Tyson Foods and would employ around 33,000 people.


"Bringing the companies together under this one go-to-market strategy enables us to maximise the resources that we have," Norman Bessac, Cargill's vice president of retail marketing said.


Cargill said it will continue to adopt its current brand names, such as Honeysuckle White turkey and Excel beef and pork.


The company has started using the new name, but it will only be official in January or February 2004.
