Vietnam's buffalo numbers dropped 1.9% in first eight months this year, pig numbers rose 3.3%
The total number of buffaloes in Vietnam was estimated to drop by 1.9% in the first eight months of 2023 when compared to same period last year, Chăn nuôi Việt Nam reported, citing official data.
The total number of cows was estimated to increase by 0.5%.
In the period, the total number of pigs rose by 3.3% in the first eight months this year. Vietnam's total poultry population grew by 2.3%.
According to Vietnam's General Statistics Office, live pork production accounts for 63.8% of total domestic meat production. The average price of live pigs in August this year ranged from ₫58,000-62,000/kg.
In the first six months of 2023, the total number of buffaloes in Vietnam was estimated at 2.23 million heads, while the total number of cows was 6.41 million. The total number of pigs amounted to 24.83 million heads. Vietnam's total poultry population reached 532.59 million.
