Chile's pork production on continuing rise

Chile's pork production continues to rise this year, according to the latest report by Chile's Office of Agrarian Studies and Policies (Odepa),  an institution under the country's Ministry of Agriculture.

The figures for the period from January to August show an cumulative production of 385,514 tonnes, which represents an increase of 7.3% compared to the same period in 2019 (359,443 tonnes).

Chile's imports of pork and offal have sharply declined 18%, from 77,254 tonnes exported between January-August 2019 to 63,306 tonnes for the same period in 2020.

In contrast, exports have increased significantly (+29.4%), reaching 210,397 tonnes (162,642 tonnes for the same period in 2019). It should be noted that, as reported by Odepa in relation to USDA projections, China will decrease imports of pork.
