Indian soymeal exports to achieve all time record

With 10 million tonnes of soymeal crop expected this year and about two million tonnes from last year's stock, India is likely to reach all-time record soymeal exports.

"Soyabean meal export may cross the earlier peak record of five million tonnes, mostly to Japan, China and Southeast Asian countries. With the help of various agencies, soyabean processors have improved their quality of soyabean meal, which is sought after by the above countries, due to higher percentage of protein. As Indian soyabean meal is Non-GMO, developed countries like Japan and Europe prefer it," said Ricky Thaper, treasurer, Poultry Federation of India.

According to the official data, Japan imported good quality of Indian soymeal in September 2010 and Indian exporters also had inquiries from European countries.

According Thaper, the Indian poultry farmers may not be able to benefit much from higher crop of soymeal this year due to the expectation of more exports of soymeal from the country.

The second quarter of Indian fiscal year (July-September) is mostly a lean period for oil meal exports from India. The improvement in oil meal exports, during the second quarter of 2010, has achieved an overall growth of 12% for the first half (April-September) of this year.

India also exports maximum oil meal, mostly soymeal, during the second half of the fiscal year (October 2010-March 2011). The present trend is an indication that soymeal exports shall be a record high during this fiscal year (April 2010-March 2011).
