South Africa's corn production falls 1 million tonnes short of expectations
South African corn production is just over a million tonnes short of the projected 6.902 million tonnes total production for the season.
The country's corn yields for the 2007/08 season rose by 16,000 tonnes on the week to 5.90 million tonnes last week, the South African Grain Information Service said Wednesday (October 31, 2007).
South African farmers harvest corn each year from about April to early August, with the key harvest in June and July.
Wheat yields for the season, which started at the beginning of the month, rose by 30,000 tonnes to 39,000 tonnes last week, SAGIS said in its weekly report.
