US poultry production declines in September

 
 

 

The latest data from the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) has revealed a decline in poultry production for the month of September, Brownfield Ag News reported.

 

Approximately 4.276 billion pounds of poultry were certified as wholesome last month, marking a 5% decrease compared to the same period the previous year. Chicken production experienced a notable 5% decrease to 3.834 billion pounds.

 

The average live weights for chickens exceeded those of the previous year, with chickens weighing in at an average of 6.62 pounds. Chicken slaughter also saw a 6% decrease to 767.269 million head.

 

The ante-mortem condemnations amounted to 11.703 million head, equivalent to 0.21% of the preliminary live weight, with post-mortem condemnations totalling 23.199 million pounds or 0.54% of monthly production. These figures were lower compared to the previous year.

 

From January to September 2023, US poultry production stands at 39.416 billion pounds, indicating a 2% lead over the pace set in 2022.

 

The USDA is scheduled to release its next set of annual poultry production projections on November 9, 2023.
