US sends back two Bangladeshi shrimp consignments
The US has on Oct 15 returned two consignments of shrimps from two Bangladeshi exporters, after the US Federal Drug Administration (FDA) declared the shrimps "uneatable".
About 40 tonnes of shrimps worth BDT 2 crore have been rejected.
The Bangladeshi Fisheries Department may now cancel the licences of the exporters, Modern Sea Food Industries and Sai and Company, if no sufficient explanations were given.
The exporters have since denied the FDA's accusation, saying that the shrimps were sent back due to faulty labelling.
